Job 41:11

God the rightful owner

Job 41:11 Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.

Often times we hold on to things tightly because we have worked and saved our money to purchase material things. Things that are wants and things that are needs. From groceries to a new car. We are indeed people that like our stuff.

This section of Job God is questioning Job. Asking him a variety of questions. These question essentially put Job in his rightful spot. Which if it was you and I, these questions would put us in our rightful spot also. This verse is great because it shows you and I that all we have is given to us, and that God owes us nothing.

First God asks you and I the question of who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Essentially what have you and I given to God that He owes us. I know that I often think that God does owe me. I am a good person, I work hard, I treat others well. I pay my bills on time, of course He owes me a good life. We can be just like Job. Job had it all. God took it all away, but restored everything to Job in the end. Do you think that God needs to repay you? When trials come are you like Job and start to defend yourself. I know I can. I can quickly get to the point of why me, but I can’t stay there. Maybe we say instead, why not me. We must realize the only thing we are owed is eternity in hell away from the love of God. We are saved we are His children, not because we are owed, but because He is the rightful owner of salvation, and He saves us by His grace.

Eph. 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Eph. 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Secondly God tells Job, and us that whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine. Ownership. He is the owner of all things. Whatever you and I buy or accumulate, store up, all belongs to Him. As we have talk about before everything you and I have is a gracious gift from a gracious God. Our homes, our families, our stuff is all His.

Therefore if God owns it all then you and I need to be faithful stewards of what He has given us.

May you and I be those today who realize that God is the rightful owner of all, may we be faithful in caring for what He has given us as stewards of His grace.May you and I hold lightly to all we have and tightly To Christ who is all we need.
