Psa 24:8-10

The King of Glory

Psa. 24:8 Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle!

Psa. 24:9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.

Psa. 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah

Who is the KIng of Glory?. I am sure, over your time here you know someone that thinks that they are all that, that they are the king of glory. Tyrants believe this, dictators believe this, even some of our politicians believe this to be true of them. This though is a easy question to answer. Of course the King of Glory is ME!! At least in my selfish, self centered mind it is me. I don’t know about you, but I know that I easily can act, and think that the world revolves around me. We all should be humbled by this simple truth in Job:

Job 38:4 ¶ “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.

Job 38:5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?

Job 38:6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,

Last time I checked I have no answer for this question. Automatically this knocks anyone off of their throne, and brings them to bow before the true King of Glory. So then who is this KIng of Glory?

First He is the LORD, or Jehovah. This once again as we read before is the proper name of God. Look at His characteristics. He is strong and Mighty. Meaning there is nothing to difficult for our God. He is mighty in battle. No one or no nation can withstand His hand.

Psa. 2:1 ¶ Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?

Psa. 2:2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,

Psa. 2:3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”

Psa. 2:4 ¶ He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.

Secondly He is The LORD of hosts. The Lord of hosts is the God of armies. God is a warrior for you and I. The battle belongs to to the the Lord. When we fight we fight on our knees. It is said that church goes forth in battle on their knees. Never fear a army of lions led by a sheep, but fear a army of sheep lead by a lion. Brothers and sisters the lion of the tribe of Judah always leads us in victory. Secondly, theLord of hosts is the God of angels. Angels that surround God in all His exalted glory. The Angels that say Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD God almighty. Third, the Lord of host is God Almighty. He is the one with all power. Oh, brothers and sisters what have we to fear. The Lord of Hosts is on our side.

I believe that Herman Bavinck says it so true.

The Lord of host is the king in the fullness of His glory. Who surrounded by regimented host of angels, governs the whole world as the Almighty, and in His temple receives the honor and acclamation of all His creatures.

Finally then may you and I be children of God who open the gates of our hearts, and lives so that the King of glory, The lord of hosts, king Jesus himself would be all that we desire, want, and need.
